This song is really dense and stems from a very close friend of mine with whom I see a lot of myself in. We are alike because I do not like to share my problems with people or accept help because it makes me feel weak. As I grow older, I am beginning to understand how important it is to discuss your problems and seek solutions. Unfortunately in the black community as well as the male community, it is not exactly easy to find spaces to be vulnerable.

Eventually I had to ask myself, “why is it easier to commit to other people than it is to commit to my vision. A lot of us are trying to be the first in our family to chase our dreams. The problem is, it’s hard to progress when the generation before you went through trauma that you don’t event know about. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and my lineage. I can see all the good qualities that I picked up from my family. I noticed that the level of transparency and healing that I am trying to reach requires me to go back and work through the unknown traumas that could have potentially been in my family for generations.

So I decided a long time ago that people’s opinions of me would not dictate how I act or move
And honestly once I broke out that little box, my confidence as a man and artists reached new levels

Society will have you think you either have to be married (to be a good guy)…….or a hoe (to be cool I guess) At the same time you either have to be a millionaire (most of them lying about their money) or broke (the “starving artist” aesthetic). These social constructs leave me feeling lost both intimately and professionally Because it’s really scary to do things outside of what’s considered normal But I was never one to follow an idea just because it’s widely accepted.

While reading this book called THE WAR OF ART (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) it described this force called resistance as anything that stops you from bettering your life or the world around you. It goes on to say that, that feeling only attacks those who are moving on the right path. I felt an immediate release.

So I had a mental breakdown. I really want to become an entrepreneur. So I put myself on a strict schedule, but I broke it this weekend and went out instead. My excuse was “give yourself a break, you’ll finish when you get back.” But when I got back I didn’t finish.
I realized, though, this is a marathon and not a sprint. and two words kept coming to my head. Patience and Practice.

I strongly felt God to push me to go on SOBER OCTOBER so for the whole month I stopped drinking, smoking, and removed all relationships that were not rooted in love. I learned a lot of things about myself. Mainly how many distractions I put in front of me and my road blocks. THINGS CHANGE is my journey leaving my old life behind and stepping into my new life…….well at least trying to. It’s all a journey.

(Humble Gods is a project that describes my life experiences. I have learned many lessons in my last year on earth. The overall lesson I learned is that we are all gods and need to treat ourselves as such. I struggled with settling for average and failing to seek out the next best thing.
Another concept of this project is the art of change and variation. This project is as cohesive as my life is. Our attitudes sway our preferences sway and our moods are ever changing. If your looking for a one dimensional project with a definitive feeling you get then you have came the wrong way. My goal is to have you relate to my life and find answers through my VERSES. Every single verse on this project contains a constant battle between good and evil and it forces you to ask where you stand in the battle. Shouts to quinten miller cause I also write for drizzy.
